We've got tips for having the best basement waterproofing!

What Does Waterproofing A Basement Mean?

Anybody who has dealt with a flooded basement knows why basement waterproofing is important, but many people know exactly what is involved.  The truth is, when it comes to basement waterproofing, there’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. An experienced basement waterproofing contractor will utilize any number of proven methods depending on the cause of the problem and the source of the water.

After a comprehensive inspection, a basement waterproofing expert will likely suggest one or more of the following solutions:

Exterior Drain Tile Installation – In Michigan, the most common cause of basement water problems is water runoff from heavy rains. Older homes rarely have an effective drainage system that pulls excess water away from the home, which results in it seeping into the basement or crawlspace. An exterior drain tile system is designed to collect water runoff and protect your home from water damage.

Sump Pump Installation – In homes where the water table sits above the foundation, flooding from groundwater can be a common, and frustrating, occurrence. That’s where sump pumps come in! Sump pumps are installed in small pits just below the basement floor and are designed to keep the area under the home dry. Instead of building up and seeping into the basement, water floods into the sump pump pit where it can then be pumped away from the building.

Foundation Repairs – Basements and crawlspaces that experience regular flooding and moisture are especially prone to foundation damage, which only makes the problem worse. Small cracks in a home’s foundation can lead to water seepage and will only get larger with time. Basement waterproofing contractors often recommend crack repairs, wall stabilization and other foundation repair measures designed reverse water damage, as well as prevent future water seepage.
